Safety, Compliance & Legal Conformity for Lifting Equipment
Crane certification is a critical service that ensures your crane meets all legal, technical, and safety requirements for lawful and safe operation on construction sites or in industrial environments.
In Greece, the inspection and certification of lifting equipment, including cranes, is mandatory by law. Equipment must be inspected and certified by authorized bodies, with the aim of preventing accidents, protecting personnel, and ensuring compliance with current regulations.
What’s Included in Certification
The crane certification process includes:
✔️ On-site inspection and assessment
Inspection of mechanical and electrical equipment, stability, wiring, rails, hooks, trolleys, and all critical operational components.
✔️ Documentation and records review
Evaluation of operation manuals, maintenance logs, and previous certificates, as well as the CE Declaration of Conformity for machinery placed on the market after 1994.
✔️ Safety and regulatory assessment
The crane is evaluated based on safety requirements, load testing, performance indicators, and relevant standards, ensuring safe operation for both personnel and the environment.
✔️ Issuance of official certificate
Upon successful completion of all inspections, a certificate of compliance and safety is issued, confirming that the crane meets all operational and safety requirements.
Certification Phases
The crane certification process is carried out in distinct stages, depending on the condition and use of the equipment.
Phase A includes the initial inspection of the equipment after installation, with certification valid for 12 months. Phase B is required after the 12-month period, provided that the crane remains on the same project.
In cases of relocation or reinstallation of the crane on a new project, reinspection and, where required, new certification are necessary. This structured process ensures that the equipment remains safe and compliant with applicable standards at every stage of use.

Why It Is Important
Legal Compliance
Certification is required for the lawful operation of cranes on construction sites, factories, and public areas, and is a prerequisite for insurance coverage.
Safety & Accident Prevention
It reduces the risk of failures and accidents through systematic and documented inspections.
Documentation & Record Keeping
Certification is accompanied by full documentation, inspection logs, and maintenance history, protecting both the employer and the operator.
Periodic Inspections
Certification is not a one-time process — cranes must be re-inspected at regular intervals, depending on their risk category and usage.
